The City of Northville, the Charter Township of Northville and the Northville Public Schools have collaborated on a project to expand recreation facilities to the Northville community. In a effort to provide cost-effective, quality indoor recreation facilities, a unique partnership has resulted in the Recreation Center at Hillside.

In 1995, the Northville Board of Education offered 34,000 square feet of the former Northville High School to the community for use as indoor recreation space. After approval of a 15-year lease agreement, with two 10-year optional extensions, the project became a reality. Residents now have access to two additional gymnasiums, multi-purpose classrooms and fitness rooms. In addition, larger administrative offices for Northville Parks and Recreation were constructed during the renovation in summer 2001.

The Charter Township of Northville and the City of Northville provided a portion of the renovation costs. The remaining portion of the costs were "loaned" to Northivlle Parks and Recreation and will be repaid during the next 15 years from facility user fees.

The Northville Community Center building is located at 303 West Main Street in downtown Northville. Built in 1954 by the City of Northville as a community center, the facility was sold to the Northville School District in 1960 for use as a district facility. From 1979 to 2001, the Parks and Recreation offices were housed in the Community Center. The Northville Senior Services program offices are now located in the building.

In 2003/2004, the Parks and Recreation Commission entered into a 25 year lease agreement with the Northville School District for continued use of the building.

When not in use by Senior Services or Northville Parks and Recreation programs, the Community Center facilities are available for rental. The facilities include a banquet room, service pantry, living room, large gymnasium with bleachers, multi-purpose meeting rooms. There is free wireless Internet available throughout the building. There is direct adjacent parking to the building.
