NORTHVILLE, Mich., April 17, 2026 — Northville has been recognized as an International Mountain Bicycling Association Trail Town, placing the community on the national map as a destination for outdoor recreation.
The designation reflects years of planning, partnerships and investment in parks and trails. It highlights Northville’s commitment to health and wellness, economic vitality and environmental stewardship.
For residents, the impact is immediate. The expansion of the trail network, including six miles of new mountain biking trails at Legacy Park, provides increased access to safe, well-designed outdoor spaces. The trails support walking, biking and nature-based recreation, encouraging active lifestyles and supporting both physical and mental well-being.
The designation also strengthens overall quality of life. A connected parks and trails system builds community pride and creates spaces where residents and visitors can gather, stay active and spend time outdoors.
Northville’s Trail Town status also reflects a focus on sustainability. Trails are designed and maintained to reduce environmental impact while improving the user experience. The designation supports ongoing efforts to promote conservation, responsible trail use and long-term stewardship of natural resources.
The economic impact is expected to follow. Outdoor recreation continues to drive tourism, and the Trail Town designation positions Northville to attract visitors from across the region and beyond. Increased visitation can support local restaurants, retailers and service providers, while creating opportunities for new businesses tied to trail-based recreation.
“This designation reinforces what we have been working toward as a community,” said Derek O. Smith, director of Northville Parks and Recreation. “It is about creating access, supporting local businesses and continuing to invest in spaces that bring people together.”
The recognition aligns with Northville Parks and Recreation’s mission to create, connect and inspire. As the trail system continues to grow, the focus remains on building a stronger, healthier and more connected community.
